Imprensa especializada concorda: Temos Outrora Clássico de novo! / The wine press agrees: It is Outrora Clássico again!

Grf Outrora 2010

It is time to reveal our Baga from the 2010 vintage, and of course to taste it. The wine from this harvest was once more approved as Clássico and the first tasting notes in the wine media seem to approve, distinguishing the wine with great complements. In fact the old vines are different, they are more consistent and the differences between vintages are subtle. This 2010 appears with more elegance (reflecting the year) but it also carries more concentration, fruit and minerality. So, beyond a certain age, the character of the vineyard overcomes climate variations. If we open a bottle of 2009″Outrora” and another from 2010, we notice differences that will fade as the wine contacts with air and the two wines converge to a common profile: this is its “terroir”.

In the freshly printed wine guide Vinhos de Portugal 2014, from the prestigious critic João Paulo Martins:

critica jpm 2013

“The grapes come from a vineyard (meanwhile acquired)  with ages between 80 and 120 years. Made in “lagar”, with foot treading and 20% of stems. Matured 50% in new barrel during 2 years. Production of 2000 bottles. It is the only “Clássico” in the market. In the future, with the parcel now acquired the production could reach 5000 bottles”.

“Tasting from 2013. Again it shows quite well in the nose, with Baga showing that it does not fear the barrel, it is a red full of ripe fruit, highly concentrated, rich and with a good minerality sensation. In the mouth it is very well, very vigourous in tannins that are fine but many with good presence, the barrel just supports the set. It has a texture that will allow it to live well during many good years. Great Bairrada, that honors both the old vineyards and the ancestral  winemaking techniques. Good previous vintages: 2009.”

“In the October edition of “Revista de Vinhos” we can find the launching of Outrora Clássico 2010 in a piece shot at our beloved centenarian vineyard which we already named “Domínio V Puro”.

The main goal of the story is the release of the 2010 vintage but also to explain a little bit of our history and future projects. Once again the wine is complemented and awarded with 17,5 pts (out of 20):

“What the vintage forgot in concentration it excelled in elegance, showing juicy fruit of great quality, moist earth, and cocoa, with the Baga tannins very polished. It primes by balance and freshness, with breed and character always present.”
